WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Two fabulous 2-Hour Sessions on Sat & Sun (from 10am-12:00pm, and 1:45-3:45pm) at China Harbor (doors open at 9:45am)
LEVEL: "Non-Novice" -- meaning it's geared toward people who may not have ever done tango or fusion before, but who are not absolute beginning social partner dancers (that's because the classes will likely move a little faster than at a beginning level). You do not need to have any tango or fusion experience to join!
Saturday, Nov 23rd
SESSION 1: "Exploring New Connections and Steps" (LEVEL: Non-Novice)
A) 10-11:00am: "Ochos Inside Out - A Twist on Turns" Who says turning should all be on one foot? In this class we will play with the idea of spit weight and sensuous turns. However, these turns won’t happen without some good technique. Get a better understanding of weight shifts and everything that can happen in between and create a whole new line of movement and turns.
B) 11-12:00pm: "Leg Wraps and Hook Ups" -- a class of leg connection and hip freedom. It's time to loosen your hips as we work on some fun (and juicy) leg wraps and leg hooks borrowed from Tango. Leg action is a great way to add a new level to your Blues & Fusion and up the quality of your connection with your partner. Get ready to wrap, hook and swing your legs into action.
--- LUNCH (12:00 - 1:45pm) ---
SESSION 2: "Unleashing Your Dance Powers!" (LEVEL: Non-Novice)
A) 1:45-2:45pm "The Science of Counterbalance" Creating opportunities for counterbalancing can be among the most collaborative ways of dancing there is -- and the moves are so much fun! Whether you lead or follow, there is an art to sharing weight and counter balancing your partner. This class will focus on the skills that will make all your counter balance moves feel great (and maybe even spin). If you have never done counter balanced moves before this will be a great foundation that will set you up for a lifetime of solid counter balance bliss.
B) 2:45-3:45pm "All Axis Power and Rotational Momentum" Fire your partner dance and connection into a new dimension of fun! We are going to delve deep into technique centered around axis control. Then it's time to fly into single and shared axis turns, and off axis hang time (and maybe even spin time). Increase your fun factor exponentially with balance, awareness, and stability in your dance.
Sunday, Nov 24th
THEME: "Striking out in New Directions"
SESSION 3: "Travels & Turns -- a Recipe for Fun!" (LEVEL: Non-Novice)
A) 10-11:00am “Walking Imagination” Have you ever felt limited by the basic 4 directions of walking (forward, back and to the side)? Imagine a world where you can walk in any direction and your partner can walk in any other--at the same time! Open up your directional creativity with some simple Tango Sacadas (displacement of a leg or foot by the partner’s leg or foot) and change your outlook on walking forever!
B) 11-12:00pm “Precision Turns” Refine your connection skills and create unlimited variations on your average turns. We will be working with timing, reversals, single axis turns, split weight turns and bounces to provide you with endless ideas on how to make the simplest turns feel like dancing art.
--- LUNCH (12:00 - 1:45pm) ---
SESSION 4: "Unleashing Your Fusion Dance Powers!" (LEVEL: All Levels)
A) 1:45-2:45pm “Tango Moves for the Fusion World” Take a dive into Tango and come out with a new Fusion. We will make the fundamental secrets of Tango structure and technique easy and fun so you can bust open your Fusion creativity box. Once we get down the basics we will work with the Tango spiral, split weight and the followers axis to give you concrete cool moves and listening skills to spice up your Fusion world.
B) 2:45-3:45pm “Micro Feet and Musical Magic” Bust out of your standard rhythms and express the full potential of what a song is offering through your feet. After exploring a plethora of new rhythms we are going to apply this new musicality to micro footwork with variations of the box step, staggered steps, hits, and pauses. Learn to lead and follow the fastest of footwork and the funnest of rhythms. Magically, even the simplest of moves will feel special and your musicality will leave your partners wanting more!
